Lost & Hound

Lost & Hound is a mobile application designed to make it easier to reconnect lost pets with the people looking for them. Instead of relying on flyers, chance encounters, or social media posts that quickly disappear, the app provides a centralized place to report lost pets and log sightings in real time. Users can post details, photos, and locations, browse nearby reports, and reach out directly when something looks like a match.The app currently only works in Australia, reflecting where the initial rollout and testing took place. The project was built as a full-stack React Native application with a Node backend and Firebase for data and authentication. One team extended the system further by integrating computer vision, allowing uploaded images of spotted animals to be compared against photos of missing pets. The goal was not to replace human judgment, but to reduce friction and shorten the path between seeing an animal and contacting the right person.
